The Muscle-up is much more than an exercise; it is the bridge that separates students from masters in calisthenics. It combines the brute force of an explosive pull-up with the pushing technique of a dip. In Reppy's progression, this is the movement that unlocks access to "Late Game" missions. If you want people to turn and look at you in the park, this is the trick you must master.
The secret isn't just pulling hard, but in the upward path. Many make the mistake of trying to go straight up against the bar. Mistake. You have to imagine going around the bar, not through it. Pull explosively down and back, bringing the bar toward your belly button while keeping your core tight (Hollow Body). At the point of maximum height comes the critical moment: the wrist flip.
🗝️ The 3 Keys to Unlocking the Bar:
- Belly Pull: If you only reach your chest, you lack power XP. Practice explosive pull-ups where your hands almost fly off the bar.
- The Wrist Flip (Transition): You need to switch from "pulling" to "pushing" in milliseconds. Throw your shoulders over the bar decisively. Using a false grip can help at first if you're training on rings.
- The Tricep Finish: Once on top, finish with a strict dip. The rep doesn't count if you don't lock your elbows completely.
